Adaptation Nation

With the ever-increasing amount of film adaptations, it seems that originality no longer exists, but the box office numbers don’t lie. Clearly, there’s something good about transposing one medium into another. In this class, we will attempt to find out what. By exploring different pieces of adaptation as well as creating an “original” adaptation of your own, this course will provide you with ample opportunity to learn about the topic as well as improve your English skills.

Course requirements include active participation, a short presentation as well creating an adaptation.

It Knows What Scares You – Writing Horror Stories

Do you like scary stories? If so, you’ve come to the right place. This semester we’ll be focusing on giving your reader the creeps and keeping them up at night. This course will provide students with the opportunity to use their language in a different, non-academic context. We will work on creative writing in a variety of forms and styles.

Students will be expected to complete regular coursework and submit one project piece of 3000 words for assessment.

Media and Me

“I slid into her DM”. You did what?! Social media use has rapidly increased over the past twenty years, but Facebook and Twitter are not the only aspects of media which affect our everyday lives. In this class, we will explore the various forms of media from music to advertisement which influence the way we think and live.

To pass the course, you will be required to actively participate, give a short presentation on a topic of your choice, and produce an original piece of media input.
