In this interdisciplinary course, co-taught by members of the field of musicology as well as American studies, we will look at popular music of so-called postmodernism to search for movements and developments in as well as interconnections between the work of individual artists and bands. We will, for instance, focus on their functions in culture and music, but also on sounds, arrangements and specific individual styles. No specific musical knowledge or musicianship is required. However, participants are expected to show an openness to different approaches in a diverse and bilingual (English/German) setting.
This course is particularly recommended for students of the Angewandte Studiengänge.
