Research Methods in English Linguistics
This course familiarizes students with research approaches in English Linguistics. The objective is to give participants the necessary background to conduct a linguistic research project within a small group. The course consists of two different parts. In the first part we will introduce – or revise – core research approaches for linguistic projects, such as questionnaire compilation, interview techniques or corpus tools. Key approaches to data evaluation will also be covered. Within this period, students should form research groups and conceive research topics, which can be related to past course work or can be completely new. During your research time, we will have project meetings to discuss the progress of your studies. You will then present your project work in the form of a research poster at the end of the semester.
