Potluck Party to Prevent Procrastination and Postponing Papers

Potluck Party to Prevent Procrastination and Postponing Papers
27 February 2026, 5 p.m., American Studies foyer
Academic writing is hard, and learning how to do it takes practice and dedication. It also takes instruction and support. Yes, every author needs to write their own paper, but it is a mistake to believe that writing is a solitary activity. In fact, we argue it is best done in a communal way, sharing tips and tricks, learning from more experienced writers, critiquing each others’ work, and generally helping each other write better and more easily.
The English and American Studies team wants to create such a communal space for collaboration so our students can work together on their academic writing projects and get some guidance, fun, and food along the way. On Friday, 27 February 2026, we will host the first 6P: Potluck Party to Prevent Procrastination and Postponing Papers at Emil-Figge-Straße 50. The American studies foyer (section D, rooms 0.405 through 0.420) will serve as the central hub, but we will expand to other offices and classrooms as needed. We will offer short workshops in room 0.406 on compiling a list of works cited, on the use of AI, on structuring your argument, and on other matters. We will also offer informal one on one counseling to discuss any individual questions you might have. At the same time, there will be desks and chairs so you can work on your essays and discuss them with other students and faculty as you see fit.
As this is a casual potluck party, all participants are invited to bring any food they like to share with everyone else. Our team will provide coffee and tea. Anyone working on (or about to work on) a project in English and American studies is welcome, as is anyone willing to help others do so, or anyone interested in improving their academic writing skills in our discipline. The event will start at 5 p.m. and continue past midnight. You can join any time and do not need to register. Just bring your computer, bring some food if you can, and get that essay going (or get it done!).
