Applied Linguistics and English Language Teaching

What does it mean to be a learner, a user and a teacher of English in today's globalized world? In a world characterized by digital connectivity, mobility, multilingual diversity, and the increasing pervasiveness of  GenAI tools? What kinds of Englishes are used to communicate with each other? In which contexts – inside and outside the classroom – is English learned? What are the benefits and downsides of human-machine interaction for learners and users of English? These are just some of the issues that we as a team address in our research and teaching. Our research focuses on e.g. English as a global lingua franca in a range of contexts, on teacher education and identity, as well as, more recently, on the multitude of challenges posed by the dynamics of GenAI technology. In our teaching we aim to equip students with up-to-date dynamic qualifications in the fields of Applied Linguistics and English Language Education to foster their sense of agency that will help them to actively shape current and future teaching contexts in the best possible ways.
