During Your Stay in Dortmund
Erasmus+ Certificate of Arrival
The Certificate of Arrival for the Erasmus+ Programme will be filled in and signed by the "Guest and Exchange Students" Team of the International Office (you will receive information on how to upload the template from your home university via an online form automatically and don't have to contact the International Office by e-mail in this regard).
Choosing Courses
For the duration of your stay at TU Dortmund University you will be assigned a departmental coordinator / an academic advisor early on in the process. When you get into contact with us through our e-mail address, your departmental coordinator / academic advisor will introduce themselves to you. We offer a variety of courses from the departments of Linguistics, English Language Skills, Applied Linguistics and English Language Teaching, American Studies and British Studies. Introductory courses from these departments are offered every semester, and we additionally offer a variety of undergraduate and advanced courses (these might change every semester).
A list of courses offered in the upcoming semester can be found here. (Please note that the list will be renewed during the current semester and that the courses listed can be subject to change.) If you have any questions as to availability or credits, please feel free to get into contact.
During the first week you should meet with your departmental coordinator / academic advisor and talk about your course selection. You are allowed to change courses during the first two weeks - but please remember that your home university must also approve of your changed courses. In general, your departmental coordinator / academic advisor gets into contact with the lecturers of your chosen courses and announces your intention to take their course. We try to make sure that you can get into any course you chose on your Learning Agreement.
How to Get Credit
Every course will conclude with an exam, which can be in the form of a term paper, presentation or quizzes, for example. This is not a complete list and each course might have its own requirements which will be explained in the first session of each course as well as the dates when exams take place or deadlines to hand in papers and essays. If not specified in any other way, Erasmus+ students can get 6 ECTS for each successfully completed course.
It is usually not necessary to specifically register anywhere in order to be able to take an exam / write a paper.
On successful completion, please provide your lecturer with this course certificate. Fill in as many details as you can and once you have received all course certificates, forward all of them to your supervisor who will then compile a Transcript of Records and send it to you. This Transcript of Records can then be used to complete the Erasmus+ programme at your home university.
