Introduction to American Literary and Cultural History
Course Information
This introductory survey course will deal with significant developments in American literary and cultural history since the Puritan period; emphasis will be placed on the nineteenth, twentieth and twenty-first centuries. We will focus on major American texts and study the historical development of important features such as imagery, genre, and theme.
Groups A through L are parallel courses covering the same material.
Texts will mostly be taken from the Heath Anthology of American Literature.
