This seminar will continue the line of Dortmund student translation projects – and publications - of American poetry (Walt Whitman, Jimmy Carter, June Jordan, Karen Head). We will translate second-generation holocaust writer Elizabeth Rosner’s poetry volume gravity (2014) using translation as resource for interpretation. Rosner’s poetry deals with the experiences of the survivors’ families and their attempts to find a place for themselves in the post-Holocaust universe. Elizabeth Rosner will visit Dortmund from 28-31 October. Seminar participants will meet with her on Monday, 31 October and have additional possibilities to attend her readings at the university and the Dortmund Literaturhaus.
This course is particularly recommended for students of the Angewandte Studiengänge.
