The haunted house has a long tradition in literary history, not least because ghosts have to appear somewhere. Yet, this is exactly the point at which it becomes interesting: is the house merely the setting for the haunting or the haunting entity itself? And how do people react to the haunting?
In this course we will look at different examples of literary and visual texts. Topics include: representation, cultural geography, gender and class.

A list of required reading will be made available during the first session.

Credit will be awarded on the basis of:

  • term paper
  • project (option only available to Angewandte Studiengänge)

Personal attendance during the first session is required to maintain enrolment status.
